BAHAMAS FOREST VILLAS

Competition Organiser

RIBA

Year

Location

Bahamas

Project Type

Boutique resort forest villas in the Bahamas. NK3 designed two types of Caribbean villas for an island in the Bahamas - those with ocean front panoramas and those nestled into the more secluded green canopy of the central island forested area. Both sets of villas follow a similar natural form inspired by the many shells found in the area. Interlocking roofs are supported by radiating ribs to give maximum shading protection to the generous terraces. The formation of the roof is to enhance the flow of air during hot days while also creating an aerodynamic shell during adverse weather conditions. The curved sweeping facade form translates from the exterior to the interior program and the bespoke furniture follows the same concept.
